Staten Island Children’s Museum Offers Activities, Camp, and Special Events for Families During NYC Schools Spring Break and Beyond
This April, the Staten Island Children’s Museum (SICM) invites families to explore the endless possibilities of learning, creativity, and imagination. As the warmth of spring arrives, the museum will unveil an exciting lineup of new and returning exhibits, offering engaging experiences for visitors of all ages.
During the week of Spring Break, April 14-18, the museum’s Spring Fun Camp will offer participants ages 5-9 a fun week out-of-school filled with science experiments, art making, outdoor exploring, and exhibit play. For young artists, in honor of Earth Day, the Walk in! Workshop will offer the chance to use recycled yarn and fabrics to create a Tapestry of Trees. Wed-Fri 1:30 – 4:00 pm and Saturday and Sunday 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm. Additionally, there is the Tot’s Art Table, where toddlers can create their own masterpiece in a supervised environment, open weekly from Wednesday – Friday from 11:30 am – 1:30 pm.
With students off from school for Spring Break, the Children’s Museum has activities and fun scheduled for each day Saturday, April 12 through Saturday, April 19. The merriment begins with a musical journey hosted by Bilingual Birdies on Saturday, April 12! From 4:00 pm to 4:45 pm, families will learn new vocabulary in Spanish and celebrate diversity in an energetic and interactive workshop.
The Staten Island Fencing Club invites young adventurers to experience the excitement of swordplay at a special Fencing Demonstration on Sunday, April 13, from 3:30 PM to 4:45 PM. Designed especially for kids, this action-packed event introduces the art of fencing in a safe, fun, and engaging environment. Young participants will learn essential skills in balance, coordination, and movement, all while practicing with plastic swords under expert supervision.
On Monday, April 14th, Magical Matt will demonstrate his sleight of hand talents, slapstick comedy and zany humor, Magical Matt will have the entire audience cracking up as he performs his award-winning magic show. 3:00 pm – 3:45 pm. Age Range: 4 through 10.
Tuesday, April 15, from 4:00 pm to 4:45 pm, the rich traditions of Mexican dance and music will fill the air as community students from Calpulli Mexican Dance Company take the stage. The performance will provide an enchanting showcase of dances and songs learned in their classes. As part of this immersive cultural experience, visitors will have the opportunity to learn dance steps and join in the celebration.
On Wednesday, April 16, the museum will welcome back Marcia Greene, DDS, for an engaging and educational workshop focused on oral health. Dr. Greene will share valuable insights on dental care and lead a creative art activity inspired by teeth, making learning both fun and interactive for children and families. This hands-on workshop will be offered in three sessions throughout the day at 12:00 pm, 12:45 pm, and 1:30 pm.
Also on Wednesday, April 16 at 4:00 pm, Kim Profaci from The Modern Marionette Company will give a brief history of puppetry and its significance as a global art form followed by a 45-minute performance titled Jack and The Dancing Beanstalk, using a variety of marionettes. Ideal for ages 4 – 9.
On Friday, April 18, from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, enjoy a special FREE Admission Day, made possible through our partnership with Northwell Health. Online pre-registration is required for entry. The Cumbe Center for African and Diaspora Dance presents Mfouambila: Feel the Groove on Friday, April 18, from 3:30 PM to 4:00 PM. Led by renowned dancer and musician Andoche Loubaki, this high-energy performance will immerse visitors in the vibrant rhythms and movements of Congolese music and dance. Andoche, who began his dance career in Brazzaville, Congo, has toured internationally and continues to share the rich traditions of the Congo through his performing company, Mfouambila, meaning “groove.” Don’t miss this exciting opportunity to move, dance, and feel the groove!
Therapy dogs from Staten Island Pride Center’s Luv on a Leash program are eager to hear stories read to them by young visitors. On Saturday, April 18, Practice Reading to a Pooch. Well-trained, registered and insured therapy dogs love literature and will listen without judgement or comment, all designed to help children improve their reading ability, build confidence and develop a life-long love of books. Visitors are welcome to bring their favorite reads. 11:30 am – 1:00 pm. Space is limited; tickets for each session are available at the front desk upon arrival. Age Range: 3-9.
