April 27, 2026 — During the month of May, we will offer special admissions programs, the Staten Island Social family fundraiser in support of our planned exhibit, a school break day camp and a variety of performances that appeal to the whole family.
Free Admission Programs We are a participant in the Bank of America Museums on Us Program. On Saturday, May 2 and Sunday May 3, 2026, Bank of America cardholders receive one free general admission by presenting a valid debit or credit card and a government issued photo ID. In celebration of Mothers’s Day, each paid child admission will receive one free adult admission on Sunday, May 10 – free tickets are only available at the front desk. We also offer free admission to individuals with Cool Culture and SNAP EBT cards as well as active-duty military families.
Everyday there is something to create in the Walk-In! Workshop. Throughout May, kids will make Ripped Paper Mosaics, Participants will use colorful paper to create their own unique mosaic. Wed-Fri 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm and Saturday and Sunday 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm.
On Saturday, May 2 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm we will host a family fundraiser supporting our new Explore Staten Island exhibit. This evening will feature supervised play areas for children, beer tastings from Kills Boro Brewery, cocktails from The Coupe, and a buffet from Dinosaur Bar-B-Que. Proceeds will help bring this interactive exhibit to life, inviting families to explore Staten Island’s science, nature, and culture through hands-on play. Thanks to the Staten Island Foundation’s Diamond Match Program, every net dollar raised will be matched 2:1, tripling the impact of your support. Bring imagination to life with Modern Marionette: Where the Wild Things Are! On Saturday, May 9 from 4:00 pm – 4:45 pm. This engaging performance by the Modern Marionette Company reimagines the beloved classic, following Max’s magical journey to a land of Wild Things. Blending storytelling and puppetry, the show offers a delightful adventure while introducing audiences to the art of marionettes.
ShopRite Kidz Cook invites caregivers and children to discover the joy of cooking together on Sunday, May 10 where participants will prepare French Toast. Sessions are held at 12:00 pm, 1:00 pm, 2:00 pm, and 3:00 pm. Space is limited and tickets are available at the door. Age range: 4 and up.
On Saturday, May 16 from 4:00 pm – 4:45 pm we present Grand Falloons: What a Gas! This lively Science Circus blends comedy, live music, juggling, and larger-than-life puppetry to explore the mysteries of our atmosphere. With a focus on waste reduction and energy conservation, this program makes learning both fun and unforgettable.
Get moving at our monthly program, Museum Movers & Shakers on Saturday, May 23 through a variety of interactive workshops starting at 11:00 am, 12:00 pm, and 1:00 pm. Designed for children of all ages, participants will explore movement activities from dance games to beginner-friendly yoga.
The final workshop is a special Music Video Mania! session from 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm, where participants will learn choreography inspired by trending dances and then take what they learned to the stage. This workshop introduces the basics of video production, including lighting and sound design, camera angles, and creative direction, offering a hands-on look at performance and media creation.
Step into a prehistoric adventure with Binx the Reptile Guy – Dino Scales and Tails on Wednesday, May 27 from 4:00 pm – 4:45 pm. This interactive show brings ancient reptiles to life alongside their modern-day relatives, featuring a live cast including tortoises, bearded dragons, geckos, and pythons. Binx will blend storytelling with hands-on encounters in this engaging animal experience.
On Wednesday, May 27 we will offer a school break day camp from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm filled science experiments, art-making to outdoor exploration and exhibit play! Designed for ages 5 – 9.

Celebrate culture and creativity on Saturday, May 30 from 4:00 pm – 4:45 pm with Chinese Theatre Works: Music and Dance Workshop! This interactive experience invites families to explore traditional Chinese music and ribbon dance through hands-on participation and live accompaniment. Blending movement, rhythm, and collaboration, the workshop encourages self-expression while offering an introduction to the art of Chinese dance.
