For more than 40 years the Staten Island Children’s Museum has been the leading evidence -based and play-based learning center for children of the borough and beyond. Our hands-on exhibits and daily programs help children extend their learning beyond the classroom by harnessing their natural curiosity.
Recognizing play as learning sets a foundation for learning throughout life. It helps develop “self-regulation and promotes language, cognition and social competence.” (NAEYC – 12 Principles of Child Development & Learning That Inform Practice). Additionally, we have been the first employer of hundreds of local teenagers through our internship programs over the past 15 years.
During the both the summer and school year, we train students in customer service and early education engagement. Many of those students have gone on to work for us and entered the education field. Our impact is broad and the memories made with us are meaningful.
