Nigerian Independence day is a time of celebration and honoring the continued freedoms, sense of self, and unity that exudes in waves from its citizens and diaspora. During this day, traditional meals are made and shared among family and friends, such as Egusi soup, Ogbono soup, or Okra soup with Pounded Yam, Eba, Amala or Fufu. In honor of Nigeria’s Independence, our ShopRite Kidz Cook program is highlighting a dish that is near and dear to the culture, Jollof Rice. A West Africa specialty, it is typically made with long-grain rice, tomatoes, onions, spices, vegetables and meat in a single pot, although its ingredients and preparation methods vary across different regions. This special Kidz Cook will be led by our very own Visitor Services Manager, Adunola Sonaike. Young cooks will practice using kitchen utensils, measuring, chopping, and mixing in workshops at 11:00 am, 12:00 pm, 2:30 pm and 3:30 pm. Included with admission.
