Staten Island Children’s Museum Announces the Appointment of Two New Trustees
We are proud to announce the appointment of two distinguished business & healthcare leaders to our Board of Trustees: Marion Foley and Michael Sanicola. They were approved to join the Board at the June 20, 2024 meeting of the Trustees. Each will serve a minimum three-year term.
Marion Foley, RN, serves as the Associate Executive Director of Operations at Staten Island University Hospital (SIUH). In this capacity, she oversees Cardiovascular Services, Neurosciences, Pediatrics, and Interventional Radiology, ensuring the seamless operation and continuous improvement of these critical departments. A registered nurse by background, Ms Foley has been a dedicated member of the Northwell Health System for 27 years.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, Ms. Foley moved with her family to Staten Island at the age of 16. She pursued her passion for nursing at New York University, where she earned both her undergraduate and graduate degrees in nursing. In her free time, Ms. Foley enjoys traveling with her husband of 29 years and their two children. She is also a passionate advocate for the arts and works to ensure access to artistic opportunities for all members of the community.
“I am honored and excited to represent Staten Island University Hospital on the Board of Trustees for the Staten Island Children’s Museum. The profound positive impact of art and culture on overall well-being is undeniable, including building self-esteem, reducing stress, and providing an outlet for self-expression. Staten Island University Hospital is committed to supporting early exposure and access to the arts for the youngest members of our community through our partnership with the Staten Island Children’s Museum. Our goal is to inspire lifelong creativity, improve mental health, and foster a sense of belonging in the next generation of Staten Islanders.” said Ms. Foley.
Michael Sanicola is Senior Operations Manager at the Amazon Fulfillment Center on Staten Island. Over his 13-year career he has worked in the Maritime, Supply Chain and Transportation industries, moving freight by vessel, road and rail. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Business/Managerial Economics from the City University of New York-College of Staten Island.
As a 4th generation Staten Islander, Mr. Sanicola lives on the island with his wife and two boys. He began his career at Global Container Terminals and CSX before joining Amazon at the JFK 8 facility on Staten Island in 2017. He currently manages operations at the Amazon facility, playing a crucial role in connecting the community with one of the largest new businesses in the area.
Mr. Sanicola explained “I joined the board because I believe that Amazon can further deepen its ties to the local community by supporting organizations such as the Staten Island Children’s Museum. Amazon’s most valuable asset is its people. Demonstrating our commitment to the community our people call home brings a sense of pride and belonging, that the company we work for supports our neighbors both in and out of work. I take pride in where I call home and want to continue building a place where we can live, work and play. Investing resources into places our children can thrive is a significant part of that equation.”
“It is an honor to have two outstanding individuals, such as Marion and Michael, who both have a high level of business & community engagement, and who so closely aligns with our core values, join our Board,” shared Dina Rosenthal, Executive Director of the Staten Island Children’s Museum. “We are confident that their wealth of knowledge, enthusiasm, and fresh ideas will be invaluable to us.”
We also announced the retirement of two of their esteemed Board of Trustees members. MaryLee Montalvo, of MLM Public Relations, former Board President and Cathy Pimpinella, of TD Bank, former Board Secretary stepped down after many years of dedicated service. “Throughout their tenure, MaryLee and Cathy have been instrumental in guiding our museum’s vision and growth. Their commitment, passion, and leadership have left an indelible mark on our organization. We are deeply grateful for their contributions, which have helped us reach countless milestones and enhance the experiences of children and families in our community,” expressed Ms. Rosenthal.
