Gifting Stock
Donating stock can lower your taxes. In most cases, if you give stocks and bonds that are worth more today than what you originally paid, you can take a tax deduction for the full current value, while not having to declare any capital gains, which can create significant savings. Making a Bequest
Does your will need updating?
Creating a will and estate plan is a good first step in protecting the people closest to you and the assets you’ve worked so hard to accumulate. But even the best will can become obsolete over time.
Consider the many life events that can impact a will and other arrangements:
- Moving to a new state
- Changes in the value of your assets
- A change in marital status
- Birth of a child or grandchild
- A change in the real estate you own
- New tax laws
- Changes in your charitable goals
If you need to update your will, there is no substitute for using a qualified attorney with estate planning experience in your state. A knowledgeable attorney can ensure your revisions are properly recorded, which can reduce expenses and help heirs receive their inheritances sooner.
If you would like to make The Staten Island Children’s Museum a beneficiary of your estate, here is sample language you could insert into your will:
I give, devise and bequeath ___ percent of the rest, residue and remainder of my estate (or the sum of $____) to The Staten Island Children’s Museum, Federal Tax ID # 23-7379930, for its unrestricted use and purpose.
Make The Staten Island Children’s Museum a Beneficiary of your Trust, Life Insurance, or Retirement Plan
Through planned giving you can help children and families and make a gift that will cost nothing during your lifetime. Please talk to your financial advisor to design a personalized plan that combines present and future gifts, helps your tax status, and creates a philanthropic legacy that will be an inexhaustible resource and source of pride for your family and generations to come.
